The first record of manicures that we can find was in India, women used henna to colour their nails. Approximately four thousand ears ago, the first manicure implements were made in Babylonia out of solid gold! Nail polish was first developed in China nearly a thousand years later where the colouring of ones nails became a status symbol. The length of ones nails demonstrated their social importance. It is said that the Dowager Empress of China kept her nails extremely long! In this day and age the longer your nails the rumour would be the less work you do! The most popular manicure choice today is the French manicure. The French manicure which is known for its natural looking white tips. This trend first made an appearance in Paris around the 1800's and was very popular in the 1920's and 30's and of course continues today.
