Sadly some nail polishes that
are widely available don't have a warning label as to the health risks!
A very high percentage of
cosmetics that contain one or more of the ingredients listed below are linked
with health and environmental concerns such as asthma, cancer, reproductive
disorders and severe allergies.
Does your nail polish contain
these toxic ingredients?
Dibutyl phthalate is a solvent used for dyes. The European Union have
classified this as being suspicious, as it can cause endocrine disruption. This
means it would have toxic effects on reproduction. It is only classified as
suspicious, but not banned, so please be careful. This has also been associated
with liver and kidney failure in young children. You are not doing your little ones
a favour in painting their fingers and toes.
Formaldehyde is common in nail hardeners. In nail polish, tosylamide/formaldehyde
resin is used. Cancer research has
classified formaldehyde as a human carcinogen, which is toxic to our bodies!
Toluene is a skin irritant which can cause dermatitis. This substance is a
toxic hazard in human milk, and inhalation of these vapours can have detrimental
effects on the central nervous system.
This could also cause drowsiness, headaches, nasal irritation and
aggravation to the throat and respiratory tract.
There are completely
"natural" products available. Check with your nail technician, and if
you have concerns I would advise purchasing your own nail varnish and take it
with you when you visit a salon.
Our Kentish nail business offers you both luxury manicures and nail extensions (gel nails).
Brides and bridal parties welcome for the ultimate pampering before your special day.
We also offer pamper parties for all ages, tailor-made to your request.

The history of manicures
The first record of manicures that we can find was in India, women used henna to colour their nails. Approximately four thousand ears ago, the first manicure implements were made in Babylonia out of solid gold! Nail polish was first developed in China nearly a thousand years later where the colouring of ones nails became a status symbol. The length of ones nails demonstrated their social importance. It is said that the Dowager Empress of China kept her nails extremely long! In this day and age the longer your nails the rumour would be the less work you do! The most popular manicure choice today is the French manicure. The French manicure which is known for its natural looking white tips. This trend first made an appearance in Paris around the 1800's and was very popular in the 1920's and 30's and of course continues today.

Strengthen your Nails
How to strengthen your nails :-
Eat foods high in gelatine. Good calcium tablets will also help if taken regularly and on a daily basis over an extended period of time. Two to three kelp tablets can also be taken daily to strengthen the nails. Use a good cuticle oil every day to prevent brittleness. Always apply hand and nail cream after every time your hands are exposed to water, this will help retain the moisture.

Caring for your nails
Often we are so hard on our hands - looking after a family, caring for pets, gardening etc. Don't forget your hands .... give them some pampering too.
A simple home remedy of fresh lemon juice with a little sugar / honey. Use this to rub into your hands and leave on as a mask for a few minutes before washing off. Now give your nails a gentle manicure not forgetting to push back your cuticles and then apply a nice nourishing handcream and rub this into your cuticle area too.
We welcome your enquiries and look forward to being of service to you.
